Muscat: Wedding halls have been shut to customers once again, just weeks after being allowed to reopen, while social gatherings and meetings in  hotels are suspended until further notice.

The move comes in the wake of the night time movement ban  and closure of businesses between 8 pm and 4 am, as part of measures to stop the spread of COVID-19 in Oman.

“The following must be adhered to by hotel and tourism establishments, with regard to the existing coordination efforts between the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, and the Supreme Committee,” said a statement from the Government Communication Centre (GCC).”

These steps include “preventing the operation of meeting and party halls throughout the day, and prohibiting gatherings of any nature,” and the “closure of all public facilities in hotels and tourist areas, between 8 pm and 4 am, with food provided through room service during this period.”

Hotels and restaurants are requested to adhere to these rules, to avoid the legal consequences that arise from breaking them.

Regarding the operation of wedding halls, the GCC added, “due to an increase in COVID-19 cases and patients in intensive care, as well as a rise in the number of deaths, the Supreme Committee has decided to close wedding halls and related venues, as well as close activities concerning festival tent rentals, starting from June 20, 2021, until further notice.”
