CPA conducts field inspections to keep prices in check amid 15,000 complaints

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority is doing its best to protect people from price fluctuations and market instability.

A statement issued online by Oman News Agency (ONA) said: "The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) is working to intensify its efforts to protect consumers from price fluctuations and instability in local markets by developing strategic plans that regulate prices in the markets."

Hamoud bin Said al-Jabri, Director General of Consumer Services and Market Monitoring at the CPA said that the total number of violations during the first half-year of this year was 3,962, while the total number of complaints it received was 15,315.

The total number of field inspection visits carried out by the authority's teams were 39,739 and the violations amounted to 1,430.

The Director-General of Consumer Services and Market Monitoring at the CPA said in a statement to ONA: "The authority has intensified monitoring of markets and ensures that prices are stable and not rising during the pandemic period."

He added that the authority monitored some violations related to increased prices and they were dealt with according to legal methods, administrative fines or referred to the judiciary, noting that there are double fines in the event of a repeated violation.
