Muscat: The Sultanate has recorded a spike in traffic accidents in the second quarter of 2021, compared to the first three months of the year.
According to the Capital Market Authority, the increase recorded is 119 per cent. "Data for the second quarter of insurance indicators records an 119 per cent increase in traffic accidents compared to the first quarter of this year and an increase in insurance claims by 121 per cent."
In absolute numbers, the total number of accidents reported for the period are 15,223, of which, 12,183 are classified as minor accidents and 3,040 as major accidents as per the CMA report.
The CMA added the total amount of claims paid amounted to OMR 2.3 million for minor accidents and materials damage from a total amount of claims for minor accidents that reached OMR 10.776 million in Q2 of 2021 compared with OMR 4.697 million in the first quarter.
