Muscat: The Board of Directors of Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) branch in Al Dhahirah Governorate has appealed to reconsider the decision regarding stopping the movement of trucks on Sohar-Yanqul road.

"The Board of Directors of the Chamber's branch in Al Dhahirah Governorate appeals to reconsider the decision to stop the movement of trucks on Sohar-Yanqul road. This came during its fifth meeting this year, chaired by Saif bin Said Al Badi, Chairman of the Chamber’s branch in Al Dhahirah Governorate," The Board of Directors of OCCI's branch in Al Dhahirah Governorate said in a statement.

"The decision to stop the movement of trucks will lead to an increase in the cost of freight and an increase in the time period for the goods to reach their destination. Alternative roads are not prepared to accommodate the movement of trucks, which leads to traffic congestion. The decision will also affect the ease of transporting goods, especially as the governorate is on the verge of economic activity with the opening of the border crossing with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the launch of the first phase works in Ibri Industrial City," the statement added.

The Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Tuesday October 26, 2021 issued a decision to stop the movement of trucks on the Sohar-Yanqul road, whose weight exceeds seven tonnes.
