Muscat: A blood donation programme was organised by the Sri Lankan community in Oman under the patronage of Sri Lankan Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman, Ameer Ajwad coinciding with Vesak Festival 2022.
Vesak is the full moon in the month of May when Lord Buddha was born, attained enlightenment, and passed away.
Vesak is an internationally recognised Day by the United Nations to celebrate the message of Buddhism.
The blood donation programme was organised on the premises of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Muscat on Friday, 20 May 2022 in association with the Central Blood Bank of the Ministry of Health of the Sultanate of Oman, Sri Sambutthatwa Jayanthi Viharaya Committee and the Sri Lanka Community Social Club in Oman.
More than 100 members of the Sri Lankan community in Oman volunteered and donated their blood to the Central Blood Bank of the Sultanate of Oman.
Speaking on this special occasion Sri Lanka Ambassador Ameer Ajwad commended the Sri Lankan community in Oman for their invaluable humanitarian gesture of solidarity with the people of the host country.
The ambassador also extended his sincere appreciation to the medical staff of the Central Blood Bank of the Sultanate for their kind and dedicated services throughout the programme.
A free medical camp was also organised by Sri Lankan medical doctors serving in the Sultanate for the benefit of the participants during the programme.
