Low pressure trough to affect weather in parts of Oman

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman might be affected this week by extensions of low pressure system coming from India

The Civil Aviation Authority said in the weather report: “The latest weather maps and analyses of the National Multi Hazard Early Warning Centre indicate that the Sultanate might be affected this week by extensions of low pressure system coming from India. Here are the details of this forecast by days:

Saturday, Sunday and Monday: Continuation of chances of thunderstorms with varying intensity of rainfall on the western and eastern Al Hajar mountain, specifically on the mountainous areas located in the governorates of North Al Batinah, Al Buraimi, Al Dhahirah, Al Dakhiliyah, South Al Batinah, North Al Sharqiyah and South Al Sharqiyah, and the impact is expected to extend to include the plains and deserts of Al Dhahirah Governorate, Al Dakhiliyah and North Al Sharqiyah.

Tuesday and Wednesday: The alert also will continue in the Al Hajar Mountains and the mountainous areas located in the above mentioned governorates . Also, due to the extension of the low pressure system coming from the Arabian sea, advected clouds with isolated rain will start to affect governorates of South Al Sharqiyah and Al Wusta and parts of the governorates of Muscat and North Al Sharqiyah , and the amount of these rains ranges between 15-40 millimetre.

The impact of this weather event during the above mentioned five days:

• Rainfall between 15-40 mm associated with hail may lead to the flow of some wadis.

• Fresh downdraft winds between 20-40 knots ( 40-80 km / h ), sometimes can cause the movement of unstable materials.

• The rise of dust due to the fresh winds that may lead to a decrease in horizontal visibility.

The sea state will be rough along the Arabian Sea coasts with a maximum height of 4 metres, while the sea state will be moderate on the rest of the coasts with maximum wave height of 2 metres.
