Muscat: The Civil Aviation Authority has warned media and personal accounts to not publish unauthorised forecasts and warnings during weather conditions that affect the Sultanate of Oman, as it is a violation of the Civil Aviation Law and could result in fines of up to OMR50,000 or jail terms.
In a statement the CAA said that it had monitored a number of media and personal accounts publishing forecasts and warnings contrary to what was issued by the Omani Meteorological Authority at the Civil Aviation Authority. "As this results in confusion for the official authorities and individuals as a result of the spread of rumours and intimidation or the broadcasting of statements other than the truth, and given that these practices are in violation of the prohibition imposed by the Civil Aviation Law on these acts," the statement said.
"Whoever violates the provision of Article (30) shall be punished with imprisonment for a period no less than one year and not exceeding 3 years, and a fine no less than OMR15,000 and not exceeding OMR50,000, or one of these two penalties”
