Exhibition of geological heritage inaugurated at Al Dakhiliyah Governorate

Muscat: An exhibition of geological heritage was inaugurated in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, which includes a number of distinctive pieces, including an 800-million-year-old fossil.

The Geological Heritage Exhibition "Sustainability and Job Opportunities" was inaugurated in its second edition, under the patronage of His Excellency Azzan bin Qasim Al Busaidi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism for Tourism, coinciding with the Sultanate of Oman's celebrations of the 52nd National Day, and to celebrate the diversity of the museum system that enhances heritage and tourism destinations in various governorates. This is in cooperation with Petroleum Development Oman and the Geological Society of Oman. The exhibition will continue until March 23, 2023 .

The opening of the exhibition is a translation of the efforts implemented by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism to introduce the importance of the geological heritage in Oman, to preserve it and ensure its sustainability.

The exhibition included six pillars, including the story of the geological heritage and the diversity of the geology of the Oman and its geological history, in addition to the formation of Oman in the geological history, and the importance of preserving the geological heritage and ensuring its sustainability. In addition to job opportunities in geological tourism and another section talks about the geology of Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, highlighting the geological diversity of the governorate.

The exhibition also includes a number of distinctive geological heritage pieces that abound in Oman, the oldest of which is a fossil dating back about 800 million years, scientific three-dimensional models of the extinct primitive elephant whose fossilised teeth were found in the "Aidam" region in the Dhofar Governorate. In addition to the extinct dinosaur anthropomorphic, fossilised remains of which were found in the Al-Khoudh area in the Wilayat of Seeb, and other unique geological fossils.
