
Muscat: The total bank credit extended by commercial banks in the Sultanate of Oman from October 2021 to October 2022 registered an increase of 2.8 per cent to OMR19.4 billion.
Regarding the investment type, the total investment of conventional commercial banks in securities decreased by 11.6 per cent, to reach about OMR4.4 billion at the end of October 2022 compared to the same period in October 2021.
Within this type, investment in government development bonds (GDBs) decreased by 3.8 per cent to reach OMR2.1 billion at the end of October 2022 compared to the same period in 2021.
As for the banks’ investments in foreign securities, they increased by 17.7 per cent, reaching OMR870 million at the end of October 2022.
On the liabilities side, total deposits with traditional commercial banks decreased by 0.3 per cent to reach OMR20.9 billion at the end of last October. Private sector deposits decreased by 2.4 per cent to reach OMR14.1 billion, accounting for 67.4 per cent of total deposits with traditional commercial banks.
As for government deposits with commercial banks, they increased by 7.7 per cent in October 2022, to reach about OMR5 billion, and deposits of public sector institutions increased by 0.1 per cent, to about OMR1.4 billion.
