Gulf Traffic Week aims to create awareness on rules, regulations

Salalah: To spread awareness on the importance of adhering to traffic rules and regulations among all segments of society to reduce the risk of accidents, the Dhofar Governorate Police Command inaugurated Gulf Traffic Week at commercial complex Salalah Gardens Mall on Sunday.

The inauguration ceremony was held under the patronage of Dr. Bukhait Ahmed Al Mahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation for Higher Education, in the presence of Brigadier General Salim Mohammed Al Ghaithi, Police Commander in Dhofar Governorate, and officials.

The activities of the Gulf Traffic Week include holding a three-day exhibition containing interactive screens, traffic competitions, paintings and visual displays, in addition to models of rescue equipment and devices used in accidents, in addition to distributing pamphlets and guidebooks.

Competitions for children will also organised during the event. The competitions aim at raising awareness of the importance of traffic safety with the participation of the Salalah Traffic Department and the Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance, the Department of the Public Authority for Consumer Protection, Sultan Qaboos Hospital, the Omani Women’s Association in Salalah, and the Department for Combating Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

The activities also include a blood donation campaign at the Traffic Safety Institute, in addition to holding several awareness lectures at the University of Dhofar, the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in Salalah, Sultan Qaboos Hospital and the Vocational College. A traffic event will be also organized in the Chinese Village that will continue until next Thursday.

The new statistics indicate a decrease in traffic accidents by more than 70 percent, injuries by 49 percent, and deaths by 51 percent in 2022 compared to the 2012 statistics.
