Dr. Hafsa Banu, a dentist and an artist in Oman, dedicates her unique artwork made of nails and strings to commemorate International Women's Day. This year's theme is Embrace Equity and her artwork is crafted around a woman with tones of different skin colour on her face to reflect equality irrespective of race or ethnicity.
The background of the artwork shapes around the woman in descriptive words of what a woman is. According to Dr Hafsa the words expressed in this work are quite less compared to the numerous character, roles and power the women encompass in this world. The other part of the work is the linear lines of threads shaping around the woman which contains different colours of threads again denoting different ethnicities.
Dr.Hafsa uses her main genre of nails and strings for this work showing the rigidness and strength of nails and strings for being synonymous to the power of women. Equality means each individual given the same resources or opportunities whereas equity recognises that each person has different circumstances and given the same resources and opportunities can reach an equal outcome.
