Muscat: The Embassy of Sri Lanka is pleased to announce the arrangement of several activities by the Embassy and the Sri Lankan community members to celebrate the Vesak festival this year under the theme of “the serenity of the mind”.
In parallel to the Vesak week declared by the Government of Sri Lanka, the Embassy has scheduled the programmes commemorating with great respect noble triple events of the birth, enlightenment and passing away of Lord Gautama Buddha, who is worshiped as one of the greatest religious scholars who came to this world. The auspicious occasion of Vesak Poya Day is an UN declared international holiday, which falls on 5 May this year.
The main Vesak ceremony in Muscat will be held at the Sambuddhathwa Jayanthi Buddhist Temple within the Sri Lanka Embassy premises from 5 -13 May 2023 in the evenings while the Vesak Lantern competition is held at the official Residence of the Ambassador at Way No. 2124, Al Bashair Street, Madinat Al Sultan Qaboos from 5 to 13 May 2023 daily between 7.30 p.m. and 10.30 p.m.
The committee of the Sambuddhathawa Jayanthi Viharaya in coordination with the Embassy will organise blood donation and health camp at the Embassy premises on Saturday, 6 May 2023 from 8.00 a.m. to 2.00 p.m.
An alms giving to three Ven. Monks from Sri Lanka will also be held at the official residence of the ambassador.
All Sri Lankans, Buddhists and well-wishers are warmly welcomed to visit and participate in the events.
