Muscat: Indian expatriates in the Sultanate of Oman celebrated the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3, India’s Moon mission, when the lander named Vikram and a rover named Pragyan — landed in the southern polar region of the Moon on Wednesday.
The two robots, from a mission named Chandrayaan-3, made India the first country to reach this part of the lunar surface in one piece — and only the fourth country ever to land on the Moon.
The historic achievement of the landing on the Moon attracted millions of viewers across the world.
In his remarks to Times of Oman, Dr Dilip Singhvi, senior doctor at Shifa Hospital, was overjoyed.
He said: “It is a proud moment for all Indians. We were all waiting and praying for the smooth landing. It shows the progress of India in the space sector.”
“Today, all Indians stand tall on this planet. We are the first to reach the south pole of the Moon. We have grown up listening to stories of uncle Moon, but never ever dreamt that we will conquer it someday. Today’s that auspicious day, we are on the Moon, we are on Mars, and soon will reach other planets. We have made history today, 23/08/2023."
“Many congratulations to our scientists and ISRO on this extraordinary achievement for our beloved country.”
The successful landing of the Chandrayaan-3 lander module also brought to an end the disappointment over the crash landing of the Chandrayaan-2, four years ago. Several prominent personalities from India and across the world congratulated the Indian Space and Research Organisation (ISRO) for this fantastic feat.
Madhu, a long-time resident of Oman said, “Our scientists and our dedicated youngsters can achieve anything in the world. Great achievement by India, congrats to ISRO. India will soon become a superpower.”
Lal, who works at an international school in Oman, said, “Congratulations ISRO. I am proud to be an Indian. This is a result of great efforts by our scientists and ISRO.”
Abhishek Kalla, a partner in a top legal firm in Muscat said: “It is a momentous day for India and for the world. We are only the fourth country in the world to achieve this feat [landing on Moon]. Hats off to our brilliant scientists and ISRO for pulling off such a crucial and difficult mission.”
