Muscat: His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik on Sunday issued Royal Orders to dispatch rescue teams and urgent relief in support of the efforts of Morocco in dealing with the effects of the devastating earthquake that hit the African nation on Friday.
The move reflects Oman’s humanitarian role to lend relief to victims of natural disasters.
More than 2,000 people have been reported dead while thousand others injured following the earthquake that had a magnitude of 6.8. Historical structures in Marrakesh, the closest city to the epicentre, were also damaged by the quake.
