Pandian wins two titles at ISC meet

Muscat: Indian Social Club (ISC) Oman National Day open badminton tournament 2023 came to a grand conclusion on Saturday evening with the crowning of winners in the six categories.

IshrathHabibulla, Managing Director of Majees Technical Services LLC, was the chief guest for the concluding ceremony. Percy Pereira, General Manager of Supa Sportsman LLC, was the guest of honour in presence of Babu Rajendran, Chairman of ISC, CM Sardar ISC Vice Chairman and Shakeel KM, ISC General Secretary, and other dignitaries.

The two-day tournament witnessed participation of 150 players including Omani teams.

In the Omani National doubles category, Saleh al Mamari and Mehdi al Lawati beat Ali al Manthari and Yousuf al Lawati to clinch the title.

In the men’s singles final, Jithesh Pandian edged out Rajesh R 21-14, 19-21, 21-11 to emerge champion.

Jithesh won a double when he combined with Vedanth Anand bagged the honours in the under-17 boys doubles. Jithesh-Vedanth duo won in straight sets 21-13, 21-12.

In the keenly fought mixed doubles final, Himesh Haridas and Christine Danthi edged out Harshpreet Singh and Kamya Sharma 21-19, 17-21, 21-16.

In the men’s open doubles, Danish R and Riyas Sadiq were the victors after beating Vinod Abraham and Alvin Aloshyous 22-20, 21-17. In the men’s veteran doubles, Vinod Abrahamand Mohammed Haroos emerged champions with a 23-21, 21-13 win over Nadeem Dalwai and Jinesh in the final.

Mementoes were presented as a token of appreciation to the Tournament refree Madhu Nambiar, Vinod kumar Tournament coordinator and support staff.

Majees Technical Services LLC was the main and title sponsor while Supa Sportsman LLC was the support sponsor along with Oman Oasis and Kosmos Badminton Academy.

Babu Rajendran Chairman of ISC mentioned in his speech that there will be more Omani participations in our forthcoming sports events such as Badminton, Lawn Tennis, Table tennis, Volleyball and Cricket.

“It was a fabulous tournament. I am happy with the positive response received from the players. Participation was not only limited to the capital city as we had received good number of entries from Suhar, Sur, Nizwa and Ibri. We will conduct our Annual Badminton Tournament in February 2024,” said SanjitKanojia, ISC Sports Secretary.

The winners and runner-ups were presented with trophies and cash prizes during the award ceremony. Special gifts were given to the lucky coupon winners from the spectators as well.
