Birth rate in Oman increases: Ministry of Health

Muscat: Latest figures from Ministry of Health (MOH) which were released yesterday showed a 34.1 rise per 1000 population in the crude birth rate in the country over the last two years. Whereas the crude death rate over the same period for the same population remained static at 2.9
The report also highlighted the progress in health services in 2015 with the rise in the number of health centers at 182, which are established by the MOH. Additionally the number of extended health centers reached 23 which include specialized clinics offering secondary healthcare services on the outpatient clinic level.
The Ministry currently runs 49 hospitals spread across the country equipped with 4998 beds.
Regarding the health manpower, the report also indicated that the total number of doctors working in Oman has reached 8914, out of which 6393 are working under the Ministry. In addition the number of nurses stood at 14675, 554 pharmacists and 358 dentists in total.
Compared with the low communicable diseases morbidity rates, the report revealed that non-communicable diseases are in the top of the morbidity rates.
