Muscat: On 22 April 2024, the Shura Council will host Dr. Abdullah Nasser Al Harrasi, Minister of Information, who will deliver the Information Ministry’s statement during a public session.

The session is part of the 8th regular sitting of the council's first annual convening during the 10th Term (2023-2027).

A day earlier, the council will hold its 7th regular session during which it will discuss the Draft Media Law referred by the government.

This was unveiled by Sheikh Ahmed Mohammed Al Nadabi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council.

Al Nadabi said that the statement of the Minister of Information will deal with 12 main topics specified earlier by the council. The minister will elaborate on the Sultanate of Oman’s media strategy and policy, laws regulating the media sector in Oman, the Ministry’s efforts to develop media training, the role of Oman News Agency and its daily follow-up and coverage of local, regional and international events.

The statement will focus on investment in ‘media making’ and the challenges posed to the industry. It will review efforts to develop Omani drama, Governorates’ Media and Foreign Media.

The deliberations will also cover the extent to which the Government Communication Centre activates liaison with government institutions.

The statement will explain how the media handles different social issues and addresses the challenges facing the media sector.

Al Nadabi said that the session will include discussions on the “Draft Media Law” being one of the major legislations that were studied by the Council over the past months, since the bill was forwarded to the council by the government in the beginning of this year.
