Sayyid Badr receives officials tasked with Combating Human Trafficking

Muscat: The Sultanate of Oman on Wednesday hosted the 5th session of the Government Forum to Combat Human Trafficking in the Middle East (2024).

Sayyid Badr Hamad Al Busaidi, Foreign Minister, received heads of committees tasked with combating human trafficking, representatives of GCC states, Jordan, Egypt, the GCC Secretariat General and representatives of regional and international organisations taking part in the forum.

During the meeting, Sayyid Badr underscored the role of GCC-Arab committees entrusted with combating human trafficking through the measures that the panels undertake to spread public awareness, as well as their participation in regional and international events, the enactment of national laws, the exchange of expertise and experiences and their endeavours to join ranks to address the phenomenon in a manner that guarantees public security.

Sayyid Badr stressed the need to strengthen coordination among those committees and put to practice the findings of the studies that they conduct. He pointed out that the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking receives the full support of the government in Oman due to the committee’s effective contribution with other institutions of the country.

The meeting also dealt with prominent topics on the agenda of the forum which seeks to upgrade the level of performance of the committees concerned and realise the aspirations of the leaders and peoples of the region.

The forum's participants expressed their thanks to the Sultanate of Oman for hosting the 2024 session of the forum, which, they said, yielded good results. They also voiced their appreciation for Oman’s cooperation and continuous support for the joint GCC-Arab march “within the framework of the System of Combating Human Trafficking, deemed a model of success at the regional and global levels”.
