National Museum marks historic relations between Oman-Somalia

Muscat: The National Museum on Monday organised a cultural programme to celebrate historic Omani-Somali relations. The programme included the presentation of a series of research papers.

The first paper titled ‘Historical Relations between the Sultanate of Oman and the Federal Republic of Somalia’ was presented by Sayyid Abdul Wahab bin Suleiman Al Busaidi, a researcher in Omani-Somali relations’ history.

The paper discussed similarities between Oman and Somalia from various aspects, highlighting their strategic locations and citing historical sources that document their relations.

Additionally, the paper focused on current trade relations between the two countries.

Moreover, the second paper touched on the significance of trade relations between Oman and Somalia.

It was presented by Counsellor Bashir Sheikh Mahboub, Acting Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The paper discussed positive developments achieved by the Somali government in political, economic, and security spheres, as well as the importance of Somalia joining the East African Community, the largest trading bloc in that region

The paper also highlighted the importance of East African ports for bilateral trade between East Africa and Oman, contributing to economic growth. The paper also provided statistics reflecting the trade relationship between the two countries.
