Challenges facing startups, tech companies discussed at forum

Muscat: Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI) represented by the Digital Economy and Artificial Intelligence Committee, in cooperation with the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology on Wednesday organised the first forum for CEOs of startups and companies in the technology and telecommunication field.

The forum discussed challenges faced by these companies and the proposed solutions.

During the forum, the CEOs Network was inaugurated in a bid to bolster strategic partnerships that support the system of digital transition. The Ministry also launched a platform for technology companies.

Faisal bin Abdullah Al-Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said: “This meeting, which represented an open dialogue, comes within the framework of implementing the directives of His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik to support the partnership between the public and private sectors. It also comes from the strategic directions of the Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which are in line with Oman Vision 2040, to improve the business environment and support economic diversification, as the communications and information technology sector is one of the most important sectors that enable economic diversification trends.”

He explained that the Sultanate of Oman’s orientations towards enhancing digital transformation are a source of many opportunities for establishing, growing and developing start-ups, communications and information technology companies, to be integrated alongside the orientation towards attracting major investments in this sector, which constitutes an opportunity for entrepreneurs and innovators.

Dr. Ali Amer Al Shidhani, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Communications, stressed the importance of cooperation between the public and private sectors in supporting the National Digital Economy Programme, noting that this cooperation represents a fundamental pillar for achieving the strategic direction for the growth of the digital economy in the Sultanate of Oman.

He explained that the effective partnership between the various sectors enhances the implementation of initiatives and projects that support digital transformation, contributes to developing the digital infrastructure and creating an attractive environment for investment and innovation. He also explained that the Oman Digital Vision aims to achieve sustainable progress that enhances the Sultanate of Oman’s position as a leading regional centre in the digital economy. -ONA
