Mountain hiking event kicks off in Wadi Bani Khalid

Muscat: A mountain hiking event, organized by the Ministry of Heritage and Tourism, has commenced in Wadi Bani Khalid, located in the North Al Sharqiyah Governorate of Oman. The two-day event has drawn over 150 hikers from various governorates and regions across the country.

The first day of the hike began at the scenic water pools of Wadi Bani Khalid. Participants traversed a mountainous route, passing through several villages, including Al Sahf, Al Safa, Al Maysem, and Hayl Al Naqa. The day's journey culminated in the mountainous village of Hloot, covering a distance of 20 kilometers and reaching a peak elevation of 2,050 meters above sea level.

The second day will see hikers depart from Hloot village, descending a 10-kilometer dirt path before embarking on an 11-kilometer mountainous trail. This route will lead them to the village of Seema in the Tiwi township, situated in the Wilayat of Sur, South Al Sharqiyah Governorate. The final leg of the event will be a 9-kilometer stretch along a paved road, concluding under the Tiwi Bridge. In total, the participants will have covered a challenging yet rewarding distance of 50 kilometers.
