Italian ship ‘Amerigo Vespucci’ receives grand welcome in Muscat

Muscat: The Italian sailing ship Amerigo Vespucci arrived in the Sultanate of Oman, marking its first visit to the country. Commodore Jasem bin Mohammed Al Balushi, Senior Staff Officer of the Royal Navy of Oman, received the ship upon its arrival at Sultan Qaboos Port in Muscat Governorate.

This visit is part of the 32nd phase of the Amerigo Vespucci's two-year global tour, which began on July 1, 2023, from the Port of Genoa, Italy.

The arrival ceremony featured performances by the Royal Navy of Oman’s band, playing the Italian national anthem and other military musical pieces. Traditional Omani maritime arts were also showcased, highlighting the cultural and maritime connections between Oman and Italy.

This visit aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship and peace between the two nations and promote their shared maritime and cultural heritage, echoing the international voyages undertaken by both the Shabab Oman II and the Amerigo Vespucci.

The reception was attended by the Italian Ambassador to Oman and several senior officers from the Royal Navy of Oman.
