Muscat: The Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources celebrated the opening of Wadi Al Jifnain Dam in the Wilayat of Seeb on Monday.
The ceremony was held under the auspices of HH Sayyid Harib bin Thuwaini Al Said, Assistant Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers for Conferences.
Speaking at the ceremony, Eng. Ali bin Mohammed Al Abri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources for Water Resources, stressed the significance of the dam which, he said, is an integrated system for protecting adjoining areas against flood risks.
As many as 200 dams have so far been set up in different governorates of the Sultanate of Oman, said Al Abri, noting that the projects included groundwater recharge dams, surface storage aquifers and flood protection dikes.
It took 3 years to implement Wadi Al Jifnain Dam project.
Eng. Yousef bin Masoud Al Manthari, Director of the Dams Department at the Ministry, said that the dam seeks to protect commercial and residential areas of Al Khoudh, Al Hail and Al Mawaleh in Muscat Governorate.
The project, implemented in accordance with standard hydrological studies, boasts advanced technologies comprising flexible concrete structures, water control systems and modern devices to monitor water levels.
He added that Wadi Al Jifnain Dam project, which cost RO 45.6 million, included construction and infrastructure tasks carried out within the scheduled timeframe under the supervision of a specialized consultant to ensure adherence to quality standards.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, HH Sayyid Harib unveiled the plaque and the attendees took tour of the project.
The ceremony was attended by Dr. Saud bin Hamoud Al Habsi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Water Resources, senior government officials and members of the State Council. -ONA
