Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Al Buraimi Governorate, in conjunction with the Oman Environmental Holding Company (Bee'ah), has destroyed a significant quantity of illegal smokeless chewing tobacco.
The action was taken in accordance with Decision No. (256/2015) and its subsequent amendments, which prohibit the sale and distribution of such products due to their detrimental health effects.
A total of 2,300 bags, each containing 100 grams of the prohibited tobacco, were destroyed, amounting to 230,000 grams. This destruction followed the completion of all necessary legal procedures. The Authority maintains a rigorous programme of market surveillance, actively monitoring and seizing unauthorised goods, and swiftly taking legal action against those who violate the law.
The CPA urges consumers to remain vigilant and report any suspected violations they observe. They provide various communication channels for this purpose, encouraging public participation in maintaining consumer safety and upholding legal standards.
