Muscat: The Ministry of Higher Education, Research and Innovation on Sunday announced the start of registration to the 12th National Award for Research. Application to the award will be open until 15 June 2025.
The National Award for Research reflects Oman’s commitment to supporting scientists, researchers and innovators, and encouraging them to conduct sound scholarly research that provides solutions to national and global challenges.
The award seeks to honour the best research published in scholarly journals, develop competitive research cadres, raise awareness about scholarly research, support the publication of research in highly-rated scientific journals and review the outcome of national academic institutions with the aim of integrating them.
The National Award for Research is awarded to two categories of researchers: (1) The Best Published Research that is submitted by holders of the doctorate (PhD) in the medical field or its equivalent (senior consultants, specialists and other seniors); and (2) the Best Published Research submitted by junior researchers (who do not hold a PhD). This category focuses on the fields of education and human resources, information and communication systems, health and community service, culture, social and basic sciences, energy and industry, and environment and biological resources.
Since its launch in 2014, the National Award for Research has seen great competition among researchers. The number of competing papers until the 10th edition stood at 1,988. Between 2014 and 2024, the Award was won by 127 research papers.
