Muscat: The Environment Authority has issued a clarification regarding circulating claims about the establishment of a monkey reserve in Jabal Samhan, Dhofar Governorate.
In its statement, the authority said: "The Environment Authority confirms that the rumors circulating on social media regarding the establishment of a monkey reserve in Dhofar Governorate, specifically in Jabal Samhan, are not true."
It added: "The authority would like to clarify that the settlement of any foreign or invasive species within the national ecosystem is not possible under any circumstances, as it poses a threat to ecological balance."
The authority, in collaboration with the relevant entities, continues to exert maximum efforts to combat invasive species, stemming from its commitment to biodiversity safety and the stability of ecosystems in the Sultanate of Oman.
The authority urges all citizens and residents to refrain from spreading rumours and inaccurate information, emphasising the importance of referring to official and accredited sources when discussing news.
