Muscat: More than 400 expatriate workers were arrested by the Ministry of Manpower for violating labour laws in just seven days.
The weekly report of the inspection team at the Ministry of Manpower stated that the number of workers violating the labour law during the period between August 14 and 20 stood at 472 workers.
“Of them, 361 were working within commercial establishments, 54 as domestic workers and 57 in farming sector. From the arrested, 378 were deported,” the Ministry of Manpower reported.
Muscat Governorate witnessed the largest number of workers violating the law with 182 followed by the North Al Batinah Governorate with 162.
The competent authorities at the Ministry of Manpower are taking legal proceedings against them.
