Oman condemns brutal attack on State of Qatar

Geneva: The Sultanate of Oman participated in the 60th session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva.

The discussions included the annual report of the High Commissioner and the Secretary-General, as well as reports from the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, particularly the annual updates from the independent international fact-finding mission in the occupied Palestinian territories.

Ambassador Idris m Abdulrahman Al Khanjari, Oman’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations in Geneva, delivered Oman’s statement, which strongly condemned the brutal attack on the brotherly State of Qatar.

The statement added that this flagrant aggression embodies the Israeli approach of continued violation of international law and its brazen assault on the sovereignty of nations. This, it said, is a very dangerous escalation that threatens the region’s security and stability.

Oman affirmed that these Israeli practices, whether directed against independent states or people under occupation, reflect a clear disavowal of international obligations. It highlights the urgent need for a collective stance that protects international law and limits the use of force.

Oman praised the reports issued by the Office of the High Commissioner under Item 2, particularly those related to the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. It also expressed deep concern over the continued military escalation in Gaza and the severe humanitarian toll it has taken, along with the unprecedented settlement expansion in the West Bank.

Oman stated that the continuation of this expansion and the systematic attacks on Palestinian lands and properties are a blatant violation of international law and UN resolutions. This, it said, obstructs any efforts to reach a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. The recent Israeli political discourse, which denies the Palestinians’ right to establish their independent state, reflects a dangerous trend toward entrenching a policy of annexation and poses a direct threat to the prospects of a comprehensive and just peace.

Oman affirmed that double standards and continued selectivity undermine the legitimacy of the international system and perpetuate impunity.

This necessitates urgent action to protect civilians and hold those responsible accountable.

It also stressed the importance of confronting violations with effective international measures to promote international justice and protect the inalienable right of the Palestinian people to establish their fully sovereign, independent state.
