Oman hosts 4th conference on judicial inspection in Salalah

Salalah: The deliberations of the 4th Conference on Judicial Inspection, held under the slogan "Towards a More Effective Judicial Inspection," began today in the Dhofar Governorate.

Hosted by the Sultanate of Oman, represented by the Supreme Judiciary Council, the conference is held with the participation of the General Secretariat of the Arab Network of Judicial Inspection Services, the Council of Europe, and the European Network of Judicial Inspection Services (RESIJ).

The inauguration of the 3-day conference was held under the patronage of HH Sayyid Marwan bin Turki Al Said, Governor of Dhofar.

The conference featured a visual presentation on the Sultanate of Oman's experience in the field of judicial inspection, in addition to a comprehensive overview of the journey of the Omani judiciary. Participants and contributors to the organization of the conference were also honored.

The convening of this conference brings together broad participation from Arab and European countries. It aims to review the most prominent successful international experiences in developing judicial oversight and evaluation tools, which contributes to achieving prompt justice and enhancing society's confidence in the judicial system.

The conference also serves as a platform that brings together judges, members of the Public Prosecution, and specialists in judicial inspection work to exchange expertise, entrench the principles of transparency, and review practical cases that reflect the most significant challenges faced by judicial inspection bodies.

The conference will discuss topics including judicial work ethics, represented by the integrity, impartiality, and professional responsibility of judges; judicial independence and means of protecting it from external influences; and the freedom of expression for judges while balancing it with adherence to professional ethics.

Furthermore, the conference will address mechanisms for evaluating judicial performance and improving the efficiency and quality of justice, professional development and training programs, and ensuring the right to litigation without discrimination. It will also cover devising innovative legal mechanisms to examine complaints received by courts swiftly and effectively.

The conference will also focus on the topic of judicial transparency and the importance of improving the reasoning and interpretation of judgments while considering the requirements of confidentiality. Additionally, it will review the role of modern technology in court operations and the utilization of digital innovation while ensuring data protection and privacy, as well as enhancing international cooperation in the field of judicial inspection through the exchange of expertise and building bridges of communication at the regional and international levels.

The conference aims to strengthen the network of cooperation among judicial inspection bodies, discuss issues related to judicial independence, integrity, and performance, and exchange international best practices. The goal is to culminate in practical, actionable recommendations that contribute to enhancing public confidence in the justice system.
