bp Oman has partnered with the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Social Development and Governor of Al Dhahira's office to launch a national multi-year initiative focused on creating equal opportunities for Omanis with disabilities through training and accessible education.
"We are proud of our partnership with The Sultanate of Oman to create inclusive opportunities. By empowering more than 44,000 people with disabilities through education and training, we are honoured to support His Majesty’s directive for a more equitable and inclusive society; one where every individual can thrive and contribute to Oman," said Nader Zaki, bp’s regional president Middle East and North Africa.
“bp is pleased to continue to invest in the people of Oman with another national initiative aimed at supporting Oman achieve Vision 2040 goals – this time focused on Omanis with disabilities. This is a continuation of our social investment programmes which have benefited over 250,000 Omanis since launched in 2014," said Najla Zuhair Al Jamali, bp Oman president.
The new bp Oman Gift to the Nation (GTN) initiative has two programmes – creating an accessible digital curriculum and training for both for government employees and job seekers with disabilities.
Creating an accessible digital curriculum
In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, the first programme will convert existing curricula into interactive, accessible digital formats for students with hearing and visual disabilities. The programme will:
· Provide learning resources tailored to different needs, enabling students to learn beyond the classroom through digital tools.
· Equip teachers and parents with new ways to support inclusive learning.
This builds on bp’s ongoing 2020 GTN which digitized the national education curriculum to the benefit over 800,000 students. This new intervention aims to make the digital curriculum more inclusive for grades 1-4, benefiting an additional 8,000 people.
H.E. Majid Said Al Bahri, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education for administrative and financial affairs, added: “We’re pleased to expand on our existing partnership with bp Oman focusing on supporting people with disabilities. This initiative supports the Ministry’s vision of equitable, high-quality education for all, in line with Oman Vision 2040’s focus on digital learning and an inclusive future-ready public sector.”
Training for government employees to provide more accessible service and for Omanis with disabilities preparing for the workplace.
In collaboration with Governor of Al Dhahira's office, the second programme will provide training workshops for:
· Government employees in client-facing roles to communicate effectively with people with disabilities.
· People with disabilities to prepare them for employment.
· Community to increase awareness of how to deal with people with disabilities.
The programme will first be piloted in Al Dhahirah Governorate and then will be implemented across all other governorates, benefiting over 44,000 people nationwide.
H.E. Sheikh Rashid Ahmed Al Shamsi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development, said: “The Ministry of Social Development values its constructive partnership with bp Oman, which reflects the shared commitment of both parties to support and empower people with disabilities and enhance their active inclusion in society. This collaboration represents a distinguished model of cooperation between the public and private sectors in the field of social responsibility. It aims to develop educational and technological tools and resources that facilitate access for people with disabilities to knowledge and learning opportunities, in line with modern advancements and to strengthen their prospects for education, training, and employment.”
H.E. Najib Ali Al Rawas, Governor of Al Dhahirah, added: “We’re proud that this agreement will enable us to create inclusive workplaces and services for people with disabilities across the governorate. This will help us enhance the integration of people with disabilities into community and provide them with new opportunities.”
Developed in partnership with national institutions, the bp Gift to the Nation programme will be delivered over five years and aims to support Oman by creating sustainable, long-term benefits that strengthen education, employment, and participation for people with disabilities.
