Oman’s Telecommunications Authority clarifies social media management practices

Muscat: The Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) of Oman has issued an official statement addressing public concerns circulating on social media regarding the management of social media accounts by licensed and unlicensed telecommunications companies operating outside the Sultanate.

In its clarification, the TRA affirmed that all licensed telecommunications companies manage their social media platforms directly through their employees within Oman. While some companies utilise specialized digital tools to schedule and link content across platforms—tools that may give the impression of external management—the Authority emphasised that all operations and oversight are conducted entirely from within the country.

The statement reiterated that regulatory decisions issued by the TRA require licensed companies to operate their platforms and systems through in-country personnel or approved local firms, in full compliance with established regulations.

The TRA also expressed appreciation to professionals and members of the public who contributed their insights on the matter, underscoring the importance of transparency and public engagement. It highlighted its ongoing commitment to conducting public consultations on digital platforms, allowing citizens and stakeholders to share feedback on regulatory initiatives and policies.
