MoCIIP approves 12 products for Omani Quality Mark; reviews new applications

Muscat, Oman — The amount of products granted the Omani Quality Mark has reached 12 so far, reflecting the commitment of companies in the Sultanate of Oman to applying the highest quality standards and meeting approved specifications, while strengthening consumer confidence in local products. The Omani Quality Mark is considered one of the most important national tools that has helped embed a culture of quality in the Sultanate of Oman and enhance the credibility of national products. It serves as the officially approved mark indicating that goods and products meet national standards and technical regulations, and that manufacturers apply integrated quality-management systems throughout their production processes.

Laila bint Salim Al Mashari, Head of the Quality and Conformity Development Department at the Directorate General for Standards and Metrology of the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP), affirmed that the competent authorities are currently reviewing a large number of new applications submitted by companies seeking to obtain the mark. She noted that granting the Omani Quality Mark follows rigorous procedures, including technical evaluation and conformity with approved standards, ensuring consumer confidence and raising the overall quality of national products.

Reinforcing transparency and neutrality, Al Mashari explained that independent conformity-assessment bodies have been appointed to ensure that the procedures for granting the mark are carried out in line with international best practices. She stated that applying the mark has become mandatory for essential products such as cement, ceramics and porcelain, given their close connection to the construction and infrastructure sectors. Ensuring the quality of these products is fundamental to safeguarding public safety, increasing reliability in the local market, and supporting the competitiveness of national products in regional and international markets.
She added that the Omani Quality Mark serves as a central tool for the Ministry in strengthening regulatory and oversight roles. It does not apply to the product alone, but also covers the entire facility by ensuring compliance with the mark’s requirements, adherence to quality systems, and alignment with approved national standards. This enhances the reputation of national companies and provides consumers with additional assurance.

She noted that the mark holds strategic importance for the MoCIIP, as it improves the efficiency of the regulatory system, raises levels of compliance with technical regulations, and supports national efforts to build a quality infrastructure that aligns with Oman Vision 2040. It also facilitates inspection and market-surveillance activities, since the presence of the mark on a product is a direct indicator of compliance with approved requirements.

At the current stage of the industrial sector, Al Mashari stated that the Omani Quality Mark is a key pillar for developing the capabilities of Omani factories and companies. It encourages improvements in production processes, the adoption of modern quality systems, and enhances competitiveness with imported products. It also provides national products with a clear advantage in external markets, as international recognition of the mark continues to grow.

She urged national companies and factories to apply for the Omani Quality Mark, given the added value it provides in supporting innovation, strengthening trust between producers and consumers, elevating the standing of national industry, supporting Oman’s economy, and opening wider prospects for growth and competitiveness in regional and international markets.
