Car agency refunds nearly OMR 10,000 following CPA intervention in Al Dhahirah

Muscat: The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in Al Dhahirah Governorate has successfully mediated a high-value dispute, securing a full refund for a consumer who purchased a defective vehicle. The settlement, which involved an amount approaching OMR 10,000, underscores the authority's commitment to upholding consumer rights and ensuring corporate accountability in the Sultanate.

The case began when a consumer purchased a new vehicle from a local dealership, only to discover a significant technical defect shortly after the sale. Despite returning the vehicle to the agency for repairs, the technical issue persisted, leaving the problem unresolved. Seeking a permanent solution, the consumer filed a formal complaint with the Consumer Protection Department in Al Dhahirah.

Upon receiving the complaint, the CPA summoned representatives from the car agency to review the technical findings and the history of the dispute. Following a thorough examination and mediation between both parties, an amicable settlement was reached. The agency agreed to rescind the sale and provide a full refund of the vehicle’s purchase price to the consumer.

The Consumer Protection Authority reiterated that it will continue to monitor the market to ensure all products comply with approved safety and quality specifications. The department also urged the public to remain vigilant and report any commercial practices that infringe upon their legal rights, stressing that institutional support is always available to ensure fair trade.
