Emergency response continues amid rainfall; 533 moved to shelters

Muscat: The National Emergency Management Committee in the Sultanate of Oman continues its coordinated efforts to address the impacts of the weather system known as Depression Al-Masarrat, with multiple sectors working to ensure public safety and the continuity of essential services.

In the relief and shelter sector, authorities reported that 533 people have been accommodated in shelters since the onset of the weather event. Currently, nine shelters are active across various governorates, hosting 253 individuals.

The Medical Response and Public Health Sector confirmed that operations at several health centers in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate were temporarily suspended due to prevailing weather conditions, with alternative facilities designated to ensure uninterrupted healthcare services. The sector also reported that 17 patients were evacuated by air in coordination with the Royal Oman Police and the Royal Air Force of Oman. These patients were transferred to multiple medical facilities, including hospitals and dialysis centers across the country.

Alternative arrangements were implemented for several health centers, including Wadi Andam, Dima, Mas, and Wadi Nam Health Centers, with patients redirected to nearby hospitals such as Samad Al Shan, Sinaw, Al Qabil, Ibra, Dima, and Al Taiyeen hospitals.

Meanwhile, the basic services (roads) sector reported widespread disruptions across multiple governorates due to flooding and rising water levels. A number of roads remain impassable in regions including South Al Batinah Governorate, North Al Batinah Governorate, Ad Dakhiliyah Governorate, Al Buraimi Governorate, Al Wusta Governorate, and Al Dhahirah Governorate. Authorities also warned of a partial collapse on the Kahl–Al-Samini road in the Wilayat of Mahdah due to flash floods.

Search and rescue teams continued field operations, with Civil Defense and Ambulance teams in Al Buraimi Governorate responding to reports of residents trapped in homes due to rising water levels. More than 99 people were evacuated and transported to safety, all reported to be in good health.

Authorities reaffirmed their readiness to respond to ongoing developments and urged citizens and residents to adhere strictly to safety guidelines, avoid wadi crossings, and follow official updates to help ensure public safety during the continuing weather conditions.
