Asyad Group launches giant crude carrier Bidbid in Seoul

Muscat: Asyad Group’s maritime transport arm has officially launched its new Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Bidbid, one of four new giant oil tankers set to join the company’s expanding fleet.

The launch marks a strategic step in strengthening the company’s operational excellence, expanding its presence within the global shipping network, and advancing its long-term growth plans in the maritime transport sector.

The inauguration ceremony was held in Seoul in the presence of Eng. Abdulrahman bin Salem Al Hatmi, Chief Executive Officer of Asyad Group, along with members of the executive management team of Asyad Shipping, signaling the vessel’s official entry into operational service.

Bidbid is one of the world’s largest crude oil tankers and was built by Hanwha Ocean, one of the leading shipbuilders in South Korea and globally. The vessel is equipped with advanced exhaust gas cleaning systems, carbon emission reduction technologies, and enhanced energy-efficiency features, reflecting the company’s commitment to environmental sustainability and compliance with international maritime standards.

The addition of the new tanker aligns with Asyad Shipping’s ongoing efforts to expand its fleet and strengthen readiness to meet growing demand in international energy trade. The move is also expected to improve crude oil transportation efficiency and provide reliable, competitive shipping solutions to global markets.

Commenting on the launch, Al Hatmi said the delivery of Bidbid reflects Asyad Group’s continued journey in helping shape the future of global maritime trade. He noted that the tanker will further enhance Asyad Shipping’s ability to connect markets, facilitate energy flows, and deliver integrated logistics solutions on a global scale, while reinforcing Oman’s position as a strategic hub in the evolving energy and maritime transport landscape.

For his part, Imad bin Said Al Khadoori, Chief Commercial Officer of Asyad Shipping, said the fleet expansion represents a strategic move toward redefining the company’s role in the global energy supply chain.

He added that the new tanker enhances the company’s strategic resilience and supports its commitment to building a future-ready commercial fleet capable of adapting to market changes while delivering sustainable value to partners worldwide.

The expansion underscores Asyad Shipping’s focus on innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable growth, while supporting Oman Vision 2040 goals aimed at strengthening economic diversification and advancing the logistics and maritime sectors.
