
Muscat: Bangladesh Social Club Oman celebrated Bangla New Year 1433 on 15 May 2026 at Al Sawadi Water Park in Barka, Oman.
Thousands of Bangladeshi expatriates and their family members gathered to enjoy the day-long celebration featuring traditional sports, cultural performances, and various entertainment activities. A large number of stalls showcased traditional Bangladeshi food, clothing, handicrafts, and other products.
The event was organised by the Executive Committee of Bangladesh Social Club Oman with the support of its various wings.
At the beginning of the programme, Eng. Abdul Hamid, Secretary General of the Club, welcomed the gathering. Before the formal proceedings started, the participants observed prayers and paid tribute to the departed souls of four Bangladeshi expatriates who recently died in a tragic incident inside a car in the Muladda area. The programme was presided over by the Club Chairman, Azimul Hoque Babul, CIP.
The Chief Guest H.E. Ambassador Rear Admiral Khandakar Misbah ul Azim, addressed the gathering and expressed his heartfelt appreciation to Bangladesh Social Club for organising such a vibrant community event. He reiterated the Embassy’s continued support for the wellbeing of the Bangladeshi community in Oman and advised expatriates to respect and abide by the laws of the Sultanate. H.E. Ambassador also conveyed his condolences over the unfortunate death of the four Bangladeshi nationals.
Madam Nurtaz Azim inaugurated the Boishakhi Utsab Mela through a ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Among others accompanying the Ambassador were Counselor (Labour Welfare) Mohd. Rafiul Islam, Counselor (Passport & Visa) Md. Anisur Rahman, and First Secretary (Labour Welfare) Md. Asadul Hoque of the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman. Mr. Iftakher Chowdhury, CEO of Gulf Exchange, attended the event as Special Guest.
Club Chairman Azimul Hoque Babul, CIP also addressed the gathering and thanked all participants, sponsors, volunteers, and well-wishers for making the event successful.
The programme was attended by Vice Chairmen Eng. Abdul Latif, Abdur Rahim, and Md. Anwar Hossain; Secretary General Eng. Abdul Hamid; Joint Secretaries Eng. Saiful Russel and Abdur Matin; Organising Secretary Mohsin Sarkar; Treasurer Mahbubur Rahman; Sports and Cultural Secretary Selim Parvez; Eng. Kamruzzaman; Zakir Hossain; Nazim Uddin other Executive Committee members and leaders and members of different wings of Bangladesh Social Club Oman. A large number of dignitaries, social elites, business leaders, country manager of Biman and community representatives, including Habibur Rahman, Nur Hossain Talukder, Issa Chowdhury, and Nessar Ahmed, CIP also attended the celebration.
The cultural programme was hosted by Dr. Jannatun Nayem Juie, Engineer Farzana Rimi, Ria, and Kader.
