
Muscat: Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) will participate in the 20th Asian Games “Aichi-Nagoya 2026,” hosted by Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026, with a delegation competing in 10 sports: athletics, taekwondo, shooting, hockey, golf, fencing, cricket, weightlifting, sailing, and beach volleyball.
Oman’s participation in the Games comes as part of its continental sporting commitments, with Omani athletes looking to deliver competitive performances that reflect the level of preparation and readiness for this major Asian sporting event.
The Omani delegation’s administrative team comprises Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rahbi, Chef de Mission of the Omani Delegation; Hanaa bint Said Al Battashi, Deputy Chef de Mission; Administrators Majid bin Khamis Al Hinai and Said bin Darwish Al Jarjashi; Safeguarding Officer Salim bin Mohammed Al Rawahi; Team Doctor Dr. Afrah bint Hamoud Al Jabri; Physiotherapist Khalil bin Khalfan Al Busaidi; journalist Waleed bin Zaher Al Abri; and Photographer Haitham bin Salim Al Shukairi.
OOC continues its preparations for the Games by completing the various requirements related to the delegation and ensuring appropriate arrangements for the athletes and accompanying teams, supporting the national teams’ readiness to compete and make the most of this continental sporting event.
The Oman national hockey team will begin its campaign during the period from September 18 to October 3. The delegation includes 10 players, along with eight members of the technical and administrative staff.
The Oman national shooting team will compete from September 20 to October 1, with six male athletes and two female athletes, accompanied by four members of the technical and administrative staff. The team will compete in individual skeet, individual trap, 10m air pistol, 10m individual air rifle, 10m mixed air rifle, 50m three-position individual rifle, and 25m pistol events.
The Oman national beach volleyball team will compete from September 20 to October 3, with a delegation comprising four players and one coach.
In fencing, the Oman national team will compete from September 22 to 27, with a delegation of four male athletes and three female athletes, accompanied by two members of the technical and administrative staff. The team will compete in individual and team foil, as well as individual and team épée events.
Oman will also compete in weightlifting from September 23 to 29, with three athletes accompanied by two members of the technical and administrative staff. The athletes will compete in the 75kg, 85kg, and 95kg weight categories.
Athletics will have a strong presence within the Omani delegation, with the national team competing from September 24 to 29. The team comprises eight male athletes and three female athletes, supported by six members of the technical and administrative staff. The events include the 100m, 200m, men’s 4×100m relay, mixed 4×100m relay, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and hammer throw.
The Oman national cricket team will compete from September 24 to October 3, with a delegation comprising 15 players and four members of the technical and administrative staff.
Oman’s participation will also extend to sailing, with the national team competing from September 26 to October 3. The delegation includes four athletes and three members of the technical and administrative staff, competing in the 49er class.
The Oman national golf team will compete from September 30 to October 3, represented by one player accompanied by a coach.
The Omani sporting participation will conclude with the national taekwondo team, which will compete from October 1 to 3. The delegation comprises one athlete and one coach, with the athlete competing in the -58kg weight category.
Oman’s participation across 10 sports reflects the country’s growing presence at the 20th Asian Games and provides its athletes with an opportunity to compete at the continental level and gain valuable experience through competition alongside some of Asia’s leading athletes across various sports.
It is worth noting that the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026) will be held in Japan from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The Games will be hosted by Aichi Prefecture - Nagoya, marking the third time Japan has hosted the Asian Games, following Tokyo in 1958 and Hiroshima in 1994.
The Games will bring together athletes from across the Asian continent, with the sporting programme featuring 43 sports, encompassing a wide range of Olympic and Asian sports, including athletics, swimming, shooting, fencing, boxing, badminton, basketball, baseball, football, cricket, hockey, rugby sevens, golf, artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and trampoline gymnastics, weightlifting, wrestling, judo, taekwondo, karate, jiu-jitsu, mixed martial arts, rowing, equestrian, sailing, tennis, table tennis, volleyball and beach volleyball, triathlon, sport climbing, skateboarding, esports, as well as a number of other sports included in the official programme of the Games.
The competitions will be held across a number of sporting venues in Aichi Prefecture - Nagoya, in addition to several venues outside the two host areas. The Games aim to provide a sporting experience that brings together athletic competition, cultural exchange, and communication among athletes and the peoples of the Asian continent.
