Muscat: In terms of foreign trade, the value of Oman's squid exports during 2025 stood at approximately OMR4.47 million exported to 19 countries around the world, according to a new report.
Vietnam topped the list of countries importing Omani squid, with a value of OMR2.12 million, followed by the People’s Republic of China with a value of OMR588,930 and Malaysia with a value of OMR394,670, according to the latest data issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
On the other hand, the value of the Oman's squid imports during 2025 reached approximately OMR617,468, with a total weight of 484,512 kilograms. Yemen came at the forefront of countries exporting squid to the Sultanate of Oman with a value of OMR209,409, followed by the People’s Republic of China with a value of OMR209,230 and the United Arab Emirates with a value of OMR137,292.
These data highlight the pivotal role of artisanal fishing in squid landings in the Sultanate of Oman, as well as the continued presence of Omani squid in foreign markets through its exports to a number of regional and global markets, led by Asian markets.
The NCSI data further indicated that total landed quantities of squid in the Sultanate of Oman reached approximately 14,012 tonnes during 2025.
Data showed that artisanal fishing accounted for the largest share of total landed quantities of squid, with a total of 12,741 tonnes, while landed quantities via coastal fishing reached 767 tonnes, and commercial fishing 504 tonnes. Meanwhile, no squid quantities were recorded under aquaculture during the year.
At the governorate level, Al Wusta Governorate topped squid landings by artisanal fishermen with a total of 4,459 tonnes, followed by Dhofar Governorate with 4,258 tonnes, then South Al Sharqiyah Governorate with 2,343 tonnes.
Quantities landed in Al Batinah Governorate (including South and North Governorates) reached 1,441 tonnes, in Muscat Governorate 155 tonnes, and in Musandam Governorate 92 tonnes.
