Mantheri praises ties with Qatar

Muscat: Dr .Yahya bin Mahfoudh Al Mantheri, Chairman of the State Council, held talks with the chairman of the National Human Rights Committee,Dr Ali bin Smaikh Al Marri, and his delegation on Sunday.
After welcoming the guest and the accompanying delegation, Dr Al Mantheri praised the ties and the growing cooperation between the two countries.
Dr Al Mantheri pointed out that the Qatari delegation’s visit to the Sultanate reflects the deep-rooted bonds as well as bilateral and historic relations.
He further added that the visit will contribute towards enhancing ties and opening new avenues of cooperation, especially in trade and economic fields.
The Chairman highlighted the importance of the role played by the national human rights institutions in the Gulf Cooperation Council to protect and promote human rights, and in disseminating information about the culture of human rights in the Gulf at national, regional and international levels.
In this regard, he appreciated the efforts of the Arab Network of National Institutions for Human Rights meeting, which is to be hosted by Oman on Monday.
He said such meetings play an important role in strengthening areas of cooperation and help exchange of expertise and experiences between national human rights institutions, and in the implementation of various future activities.
Distinguished role
On his part, the Chairman of the Qatari NHRC expressed his delight at having visited the Sultanate and highlighted the distinguished role being played by the Omani National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in cementing the relations between countries and enhancing further future cooperation at all levels.
He expressed his pleasure over the role the Sultanate is playing in supporting regional stability and world peace and in establishing the importance of dialogue through an outstanding display of Omani diplomacy as it makes efforts to bring to fruition the wise policies of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said.
He also underlined the importance of supporting national human rights institutions, facilitating their tasks, ensuring their independence, and close cooperation with a view to safeguard the public interest, keeping in mind the needs of the Gulf countries and national institutions for human rights in accordance with the standards of the United Nations known as the Paris Principles.
In this regard, he reviewed the experience of Qatar, which gained an accreditation certificate from the international Coordinating Committee of national institutions for human rights in Geneva, twice in a row at the level of national human rights institutions globally.
Issa Said Sulaiman Al Kiyumi, State Council member, attended this meeting, which concluded with a tour of the premises of the Council.
