Oman, UK to boost ties in academic field

London: Efforts are on to boost academic cooperation between Oman and the UK in several areas, including academic affiliation, as a number of the Sultanate’s private universities and colleges are affiliated to the educational institutions in the United Kingdom, said the Minister of Higher Education.
The Omani-British Society organised in London its annual luncheon ceremony to mark the 4th anniversary under the patronage of Dr. Rawya bint Saud Al Busaidiyah, Minister of Higher Education.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Abdullah Al Hinai, the Sultanate’s ambassador to the United Kingdom, Robert Alston, Chairman of the Omani-British Society, members of the society and members of the Omani diplomatic mission in Britain were present on the occasion.
The Minister of Higher Education gave a speech titled (New Initiatives for Higher Education in the Sultanate of Oman; development of the City University: University of Oman and the City of Science and Technology) where she congratulated the members of the Omani-British Friendship Society on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of its founding, and touched on the march of higher education in the Sultanate.
Dr. Al Busaidiyah, stressed the keenness and interest of the Sultanate in scientific research through the establishment of The Research Council (TRC) and the strengthening of its roles and linking it with government and private institutions of higher education in order to activate its objectives.
Tobias Ellwood (MP) - parliamentary under Secretary of State (North America, the Middle East and North Africa) - Foreign and Commonwealth Office delivered a speech in which he highlighted the Omani-British relations.
