Oman tennis: Fatma Al Nabhani's campaign ends in Lagos

Muscat: Oman’s Fatma Al Nabhani crashed out of the first of the back-to-back $25,000 ITF Pro Circuit Governor’s Cup tournament in Lagos, Nigeria on Friday.
According to information received here, the Fatma Al Nabhani, seeded eight, lost in the quarterfinals of the singles event and also in the semifinals of the doubles event.
After beating Alexandra Riley 6-4, 6-0 to book a quarterfinal clash against second seeded Slovakian Tadeja Majeric, Fatma fought valiantly in the last eight stage.
However, the Slovakian proved too good as Tadeja beat Fatma 6-0, 7-6 (2), the second set going down the wire.
In the first round, Fatma defeated Swedish qualifier Anette Munozova 6-2, 6-3.
Meanwhile, Fatma Al Nabhani and Ukranian partner Valeriya Strakhova after gaining a first round walkover, played a marathon quarterfinal against Swedish pair of Brenda Njuki and Fanny Ostlund.
Seeded fourth, Fatma and Valeriya were put to a tough test by the Swedish pair, before they prevailed 5-7, 7-6 (7), 10-7.
However, in the semifinals, they were outwitted by Indo-German pair of Prathana Thombare and Valentini Grammatikopoulou 6-1,6-3.
Fatma will stay on in Lagos to play in the second $25,000 ITF tournament beginning on October 17.
