Muscat: In the wake of the horrific road accident near the Hamirya roundabout, the Pakistan schools in Oman plan to conduct road safety training workshops at regular intervals in the schools from next year.
The Chairman of the Board of Directors, Pakistan Schools in Oman, Adnan Shahzad said they plan to hold road safety training workshops at a regular intervals in all the Pakistan schools.
“For this we will get in touch with ROP so that they can assign an officer to train children, who travel alone on the roads,” he said.
At the moment, students are only asked to participate in fire safety drills.
Ataullah Niazi, senior principal of Pakistan Schools in Oman, said road safety is a serious issue in Oman.
“Involving students in the workshops from the next academic session will be beneficial for the youngsters,” he said.
The Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance and the Royal Oman Police regularly visit schools across the Sultanate to raise awareness about general safety, as well as fire safety.
By teaching the students basic drills, such as using fire extinguishers, first aid and how to evacuate a building, children will be able to absorb the information faster while they are young and implement the skills they have learned when necessary.
Niazi, who is also a health and safety expert, said the Pakistan School Muscat (PSM) had raised the issue of child safety during the last academic year.
Zafeer Bin Munawar, who passed away on Sunday, was born in 2002 in Oman and hails from Karachi in Pakistan.
