Muscat: Accident rates are significantly dropping so far compared to last year according to data from the National Center for Statistics and Information (NCSI).
Since the beginning of 2016 until the end of September, accident rates decreased by 38.8 percent according to the data, where 3,062 accidents were registered in 2016 compared to 5,007 until the end of September 2015.
In September, 303 accidents were recorded compared to August and July of this year with 326 and 333 registered respectively.
Injuries have also dropped considerably by 26.6 percent where 2113 was recorded from January 2016 until the end of September 2016 compared to 2879 last year.
140 Omanis were injured during the month compared to 212 in August of this year, while expatriates only had 42 injured in September compared to 75 in August 2016.
Although death rates are decreasing there is still a 1.2 percent increase from the beginning of 2016 until the end of September of the same year compared to 2015 figures. 508 were registered dead until the end of September 2016 compared to 502 of the same period last year.
In September, 30 Omanis were announced dead compared to 37 in August 2016.
Expatriates still registered an overall rise in death from traffic accidents, registering a 12 percent increase compared to last year. Total deaths from the beginning of 2016 until the end of September was recorded at 187 compared to 167 during the same period last year. During September alone 19 expatriates died, 2 deaths lower than August.
