298 workers in Oman held for labour law violations

Muscat: The weekly report of the joint inspection team at the Ministry of Manpower pointed out that the number of workers violating the labour law during December 27th, 2015 to January 2nd, 2016 stood at 298 including 228 commercial workers, 27 farmworkers and 42 housemaids and their equivalents.
The inspection teams caught 298 workers including 234 absconding workers, 35 astray workers and 29 workers with other violations.
The Governorate of Muscat witnessed the largest number of workers violating the law with 141 followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah with 38 workers.
The competent authorities at the Ministry of Manpower are taking the legal procedures against them
On the other hand, the Manpower Ministry statistics showed that 320 expatriate workers were deported for violating provisions of the Labour Law and the ministerial decisions executing the law.
