Muscat: The visiting coaches from the National Basketball Academy, in partnership with the Mosaic Sports Group, recently organised a free training camp at the Muscat College in Bausher.
According to a statement issued by Mosaic Sports Group, several young players experienced the excitement of training with the professional coaches of the academy.
The National Basketball Academy is year-round basketball skill Development Company that runs various camps, clinics, leagues, teams and individual/small group instruction.
The Academy is currently the official providers of the youth development programmes of five NBA teams - Orlando Magic, Cleveland Cavaliers, Indiana Pacers, Houston Rockets, and Milwaukee Bucks.
“The Academy is excited to start basketball training here in Oman in partnership with the Mosaic Sports Group. During the sessions the coaches focus is on safety, fun and learning how to play the game the right way,” the statement added.
The training sessions are aimed at enhancing the skills of each player in the different areas, including ball-handling, shooting, passing, defence, footwork, physical fitness, teamwork and communication.
The Academy, led by former international and skill development coach Jerel Blocker from Orlando, Florida, is focused on developing the game of basketball here in Oman while helping players who are interested to develop their skill-set in a competitive, hardworking, positive environment.
League planned
The Academy will be starting with group basketball classes and game-session days and will soon be starting an open league for players to compete in as well as specific skills clinics and mini camps in the coming year.
The Academy also planning ti to roll out a full fledged programme from the end of February.
