Muscat: World Congress of the International Society of Orthopedic Surgery (SICOT) 2019 will be held at Oman Convention & Exhibition Centre (OCEC) in Oman.
The World Congress on orthopedic surgery is being held in association with the Pan Arab Orthopaedic Society (PAOS).
SICOT holds the World Congress annually, attracting up to 4,000 delegates including leading surgeons, clinicians and researchers from all over the world.
Scientific papers and lectures are presented in the traditional fields, and invited speakers provide contemporary thought on the latest concepts, as well exchange knowledge on conservative and surgical treatment methods.
Since its inception in 1930, the SICOT World Congress has organised 36 international congresses across the world. Oman successfully competed against Budapest, Brussels and Belgrade at a bid presentation in Rome in September.
The bid presentation was presented by Dr Mohammed Darwish from Oman, who is the President of the Pan Arab Orthopaedic Association.
The bid was supported by the Ministry of Health which provided a video from Dr Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Saidi, as well as the OCEC and the Oman Convention Bureau.
“We are honoured that Oman has been chosen to host the 2019 World Congress of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery,” Darwish said.
“We look forward to warmly welcoming our international colleagues from around the world, showcasing our recent regional research developments and industry insights within orthopaedics and traumatology. We’re excited to meet with medical stakeholders to exchange valuable ideas and strengthen our scientific skills and knowledge,” he added.
Professor Jochen Eulert from SICOT, commented: “On behalf of the 2019 World Congress of the International Society of Orthopaedic Surgery, I welcome Oman’s submission, which is the first time the Sultanate has placed a bid to host our annual congress. I personally visited Oman during the bid process and believe the delegates will enjoy experiencing the rich authentic heritage and culture that Oman has to offer.”
Trevor McCartney, General Manager, OCEC added: “As part of Oman’s submission, we would like to thank SICOT for choosing OCEC as host venue for the 2019 World Congress. With OCEC, Oman has an iconic and contemporary venue that provides an array of meeting and exhibition possibilities, which surpass the needs and demands of the world's biggest and most prestigious events. OCEC is a world-class venue that has been specifically designed to meet the needs of modern global events but framed within Omani culture and traditions as one of Omran’s major projects in the Sultanate”.
Upcoming congresses leading up to the 2019 edition in Oman are in Montreal (2018) and Cape Town (2017). The previous congresses took place in Rome (2016) and Guangzhou, China (2015).
