Muscat: The French Embassy, Lebanese Embassy, and Arabesque International have organized a concert featuring the Tunisian singer, Dorsaf Hamdani, on the 20th December at 7pm at Al Bustan Palace.
Dorsaf Hamdani, who resides in Paris, was born in Tunis in 1975. Over the years she has mastered several musical singing styles, including North African Arab-Andalusian music, classical Arab singing, and sufi singing. She is an accomplished interpret of famed singers such as Fairuz, Asmahan, and Um Kalthum.
“She respects the great heritage of Arab music genres while creating her own style, conveying powerful emotion and challenging the austerity and restraint of classicism,” says Ahmed Abouzahra, Arabesque International’s General Manager.
Hamdani will be accompanied by a French/Tunisian ensemble: Zied Zouari will play the violin, Yousef Zayed as percussionist and oud player, and Lucien Zerrad will serve as instrumentalist. To complete the set-up, Daniel Mille, who serves as the musical director, will play the guitar.
The concert will include six songs from each of Barbara and Fairouz. Working on the legacy of these two artists was also a fruitful path for Dorsaf Hamdani, “I had to work on my own personal development, human as well as artistic, in order to decode these two personalities. This work allowed me to understand that one can be a very modern and a very assertive woman, while simultaneously being caught in a rather conventional culture that tries to propose another image of women,” she said.
This concert marks the opening of the third season of the Muscat Chamber Music Series. Another concert will follow in February 2017, which will be performed by the German Ensemble, Jacaranda. The tickets for “Dorsaf Hamdani (Barbara-Fairouz)” are on sale at Moka & More Cafés in both the Ghubra and HSBC branches, as well as at Arabesque International head office in Azaiba.
