Oman crime: Attempts to smuggle tobacco foiled

Muscat: Royal Oman Police Customs foiled attempts to smuggle in counterfeit and prohibited tobacco products in different location in the Sultanate.

Customs officers at the Department of Investigations and Danger Evaluations foiled an attempt to smuggle large amounts of counterfeit tobacco products in North Al Sharqiyah Governorate. Officers seized 29,200 counterfeit cigarette cartons and 1.02 tons (1020kgs) of chewing tobacco.

In other parts of the Sultanate the Department of Investigations seized cargo carrying 120 cartons of counterfeit cigarettes and 286 kilograms of chewing tobacco in Wilayat Seeb.

Meanwhile, customs officials at the Wadi Al Jizi border foiled an attempt to smuggle 117 cartons of cigarettes which were hidden in a vehicle.
