Muscat: Youth Photographers are celebrated at a new exhibition by the Photographic Society of Oman.
The Photographic Society of Oman (PSO) has opened a new exhibition Monday at the Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science. The exhibition welcomes new member works, but also highlights the winning photos of the Youth Photography Competition.
The competition kicked off in August 2016, targeting various Omani youth photographers with two categories: under 20 years of age, and under 15 years of age.
Ahmed Al Busaidi, director of the PSO, explained the reason behind the competition. “The whole world is witnessing a rapid transformation of digital photography. The youth have especially embraced photography with the new age of social media, as well as the affordability of camera devices,” he said.
The exhibition, which will be on display until March 2nd, displays 39 photos representing 35 new photographers, including the youth competition photos.
“As we hoped, we received a lot of attention and participation, which was great to see. The outcome is this exhibition of impressive photographs taken by young and emerging photographers,” Al Busaidi remarked.
The PSO hopes that the competition raises the level of artistic work and encourages
photographers to present their best works.
“This successful involvement with youth is prompting us to continue with youth outreach, with improved and bigger competitions in the future,” Al Busaidi expressed.
