Muscat: Nepal Social Club will open its branches at Sohar, Salalah and Sur soon, Deepak Shrestha, president of the Non Resident Nepali Social Club Oman, said.
He added that the club will soon approach the Ministry of Social Development so that they are allotted land to build their own club premises.
“A large number of clubs have their own land so it is time that the Nepali Social Club Oman has land of their own too,” he told the Times of Oman on Monday. At present, the club operates from a rented flat in Al Khuwair.
According to the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI), as of April-end, 2017, there were around 16,164 Nepalis working in Oman.
The new offices will help in solving the issues of the Nepalis in Oman. “The Nepal Social Club is a non-profitable organisation, which was formed with great support by the Oman government, and is still working to achieve several objectives to help our community in different fields of life and play our role as a strong effective link between Nepal expats living in the Oman and their homeland,” said Regional Coordinator of Non-Resident Nepali Association in Middle East, D B Chettri.
Welfare committee formed
Ever since its inception, the Nepal Social Club has been very alert in responding to various cultural needs of the Nepalis community, and is active in finding solutions to numerous problems faced by them.
Chettri further said a welfare committee has been formed to help the Nepal community living in Oman solve their problems and to afford treatment for those involved in accidents and to help some, who are convicted of crimes.
Shrestha also said Nepal Social Club is now registered with the Ministry of Social Development. “As per rules, we have to organise a general assembly within six months from the registered date. So we have planned our assembly for August 4, 2017 at Food House Party Hall, Barka.”
The chief guest of the function will be officials from the Nepal Embassy in Muscat and officials from the Ministry of Social Development. “Also, we have invited guests from Nepal and Nepali expats from various countries,” Shrestha said.
